Introduction

The professional budget analysis program is designed to help you to attain the Certified Budget Analyst (CBA) designation as well as to provide you with an understanding of the role of budgeting and its importance as part of the strategic direction of the organization. It is important that the people producing budgets also understand the inter-relationship between the budgetary process and the financial results of the organization. Hence some time is spent looking at the relationships between financial statements and budgeting.

The program will look at the various budgetary approaches that have been used over time, their benefits and limitations, and how they are cyclical in nature. We will also consider the type of circumstances when particular types of budgets may be used, including those that have been used and are still in use today in various enterprises.

The program will include practical exercises that will allow participants to familiarize themselves with the types of financial documentation. This includes reviewing the commonly used financial metrics and the way that they can be incorporated into the budgets. We will discuss the methods we can use to assess whether a budget is appropriate and should be approved, and in some cases, whether a project should be undertaken at all.
